Female Observations
Our female Fossa spent more time recorded as not seen, this was mostly between 2.00 and 5.30 pm (59%) (3).
The next most recorded behaviour from ‘Fossa’ was pacing, seen slightly more between 7.30 and 11.00 am (27%) (1).
Sleeping was the third most observed behaviour from the female, observed at its highest level between 11.30 and 1.30 pm (13.5) (2). Resting was recorded more between 7.30 and 11.00 am (11.5%) (1). Locomoting around the enclosure was frequent between 7.30 and 11.00 am (3%) (1).
Feeding was not observed at all between 7.30 and 11.00 am (1) but was observed for equal percentages of time between 11.30 and 1.30 pm (2) and 2.00 and 5.30 pm (3) from ‘Fossa‘ (5%). ‘Fossa’ was frequently seen scanning the enclosure whilst stationary between 11.30 and 1.30 pm (3%) (2).
Grooming and exploratory behaviour were both observed. Exploratory behaviour was seen more between 11.30 and 1.30 pm (2.5%) (2), with grooming recorded more between 2.00 and 5.30 pm (3%) (3).
Playing, scent marking, and climbing were not regularly seen by ‘Fossa’ but were observed. Playing was seen by her more between 11.30 and 1.30 pm (1.5%) (2). Scent marking was observed more between 7.30 and 11.00 am (2%) (1). Climbing was seen mostly between the hours of 11.30 and 1.30 pm (2) , and 2.00 and 5.30 pm (3) equally (1%).
Drinking was the least observed behaviour from ‘Fossa‘, but was seen more between 2.00 and 5.30 pm (1%) (3).
To summarise, the widest variety of behaviours exhibited by both animals were displayed between 11.30 am and 5.30 pm.
